I believe there is no better way to spend your life than showing an unselfish love for those around you. I want to give a helping hand to others on their way toward a better life. This is the most purposeful thing that I have ever done in my life.
I will be part of the Church of South India community in Kanyakumari and work alongside them. I don't have much but what I have I will offer them: energy, youth, a positive mind and a huge smile. Some of the activities in the placement at the Rural Development Movement include the following:
- Teaching in a nursery and special primary schools in English (being a trained and experienced nursery teacher and child carer already).
- Teaching informatics and basic computer skills at the Computer Centre.
- Working with women at their handicraft unit, making things out of palm leaves and banana fibre.
- Helping at the Primary Health Care Centre and the doctor who visits patients in their home twice a week.
- Getting involved in the Health and social awareness education programme.
- Helping with the Community Hall that people use for family functions.
- Working with young women in a Sewing School.
- Giving a helping hand at their new goat farm that has only 6 members.
